I have a 2017 hybrid and I first used E10 petrol early in December on a long return trip from Scotland to Liverpool. To my surprise I only averaged 44mpg in both directions. This was with three up and light luggage. Recently I completed a return trip from Scotland to Nottingham, but due to my disappointment with E10, used E5 instead. I averaged 51mpg with four up and a very full boot. It worked out it was cheaper for me to pay the premium price and use E5 petrol. I use to get high 50s to low 60s mpg on my work commute, prior to E10 with only me onboard.
Has anyone else noticed their fuel consumption increase with E10?
E10 versus E5 Petrol
It's widely reported in the motoring press, search E10 v E5 on Google. The government says the difference in mpg is around 1%, so we can take that with a pinch of salt. Ethanol is not as efficient as petrol, so a reduction in mpg is not surprising. I can't quantify it like you have, but don't doubt what you say. I'll stick with E10 for the environment, if even that's true......
